Breast Feeding Fanaticism

Dear Boob Jooce Ninnies

Charlan ~ My 14 month old could see my naked breast, grab it, and put it in her mouth. To me, that is a sign that it’s time to stop breast feeding your baby. A 14 month old is turning into a toddler and is no longer an infant in need of vitamins and nutrients that they can now find in food and the fat from whole milk that is important for brain development. I hate to burst your bubble but it is NOT necessary to breast feed your baby past the age of one if it’s not mutually beneficial to both Mom and baby. Even the La Leche League International knows that eventually a baby’s nutrition will come from the solid foods that are introduced. So technically, for the situation on the last episode of Super Nanny, Jo Jo as correct in telling Mom it was time to stop breast feeding AND time to get the kiddos out of the bed.

Jennifer Ireland ~ Is that all you could say? Super Nanny got it wrong? Can you tell us why you think Super Nanny got it wrong? In my opinion Super Nanny did NOT get it wrong at all.

Velcromom ~ What do you mean when you say that weaning the child is taking away that child’s right to breast feed? I don’t know about y’all but if a child is breast feeding at the age of 4 and still co-sleeping with Mom and Dad then something is wrong and the child is going to have serious issues with independence when it’s time to go to school. You do not need to breast feed in order for your child to know that they are loved and cared for. And you don’t want to get me started on the whole pumping issue.

Colette ~ Jo Jo does not deserve 30 minutes on the naughty chair. If Mom’s have to breast feed their children past the age of one OR as make as much of a big deal about this episode as you all have made then I’m suspecting that the breast feeding is not as much for the child’s benefit as it is for the selfishness of Mom. Everybody’s situation is different and for the Mother on Super Nanny she needed to stop breastfeeding and the whole co-sleeping thing ~ well that’s just plain ol’ silly.

I’m starting to think that it’s the Mom’s that are flaring up over the show that should be placed in time out for not recognizing that not all two situations are the same. There is absolutely no benefit to the child having them breast feed until they are 4 years old. The first year of life is great but after that I’m starting to think it’s more of a mother’s self esteem issue that has taken hold of Mom.

You don’t need to breast feed in order to be a good Mom or to convince yourself that you are a good Mom. See a therapist already!!
