About Jordin Sparks defending the Jonas Brothers

I watched the MTV VMA award show and I heard what Jordin Sparks said when she made her “slut” comment.

Yes, I was a bit shocked when she said the part about nobody wanting to be a slut BUT I also realized she was disturbed about the jokes that were being made concerning the Jonas Brothers, their belief system and the fact that they all (including Jordin Sparks) wear promise rings.

I believe her exact comment was:

“I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring, because not everybody — guy or girl — wants to be a slut.”

Later on Jordin had this to say:

“I wish I would’ve worded it differently — that somebody who doesn’t wear a promise ring isn’t necessarily a slut — but I can’t take it back now. It was a split-second thing, and it came out kind of wrong. Still, I don’t regret it.”

I have a lot of admiration for Jordin because she did stick up for the Jonas Brothers. I think that was the intent of her comment in the first place.

Yes, she had regrets about the wording of what she said but she doesn’t regret what she said OR why.

I can respect that.

I think the Jonas Brothers are gentlemen and Jordin Sparks is quite a lady.

I watched her on Fox News last night. Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes interviewed her on their show. I thought the interview went well and it give viewers a chance to see another side to Jordin.

I also learned that she sang backup for Michael W. Smith at one time.

How cool is THAT!?

How Can Someone Who Lives in Insane Luxury Be a Star in Today’s World?

As I begin to write this, I ’slug’ it, as we writers say, which means I put a heading on top of the document to identify it. This heading is ‘e online FINAL,’ and it gives me a shiver to write it. I have been doing this column for so long that I cannot even recall when I started. I loved writing this column so much for so long I came to believe it would never end.

It worked well for a long time, but gradually, my changing as a person and the world’s change have overtaken it on a small scale, Morton’s, while better than ever, no longer attracts as many stars as it used to. It still brings in the rich people in droves and definitely some stars. I saw Samuel L. Jackson there a few days ago, and we had a nice visit, and right before that, I saw and had a splendid talk with Warren Beatty in an elevator, in which we agreed that Splendor in the Grass was a super movie. But Morton’s is not the star galaxy it once was, though it probably will be again.

Beyond that, a bigger change has happened.? I no longer think Hollywood stars are terribly important. They are uniformly pleasant, friendly people, and they treat me better than I deserve to be treated. But a man or woman who makes a huge wage for memorizing lines and reciting them in front of a camera is no longer my idea of a shining star we should all look up to.

How can a man or woman who makes an eight-figure wage and lives in insane luxury really be a star in today’s world, if by a ’star’ we mean someone bright and powerful and attractive as a role model? Real stars are not riding around in the backs of limousines or in Porsches or getting trained in yoga or Pilates and eating only raw fruit while they have Vietnamese girls do their nails.

They can be interesting, nice people, but they are not heroes to me any longer. A real star is the soldier of the 4th Infantry Division who poked his head into a hole on a farm near Tikrit, Iraq. He could have been met by a bomb or a hail of AK-47 bullets. Instead, he faced an abject Saddam Hussein and the gratitude of all of the decent people of the world.

A real star is the U.S. soldier who was sent to disarm a bomb next to a road north of Baghdad. He approached it, and the bomb went off and killed him.

A real star, the kind who haunts my memory night and day, is the U.S. soldier in Baghdad who saw a little girl playing with a piece of unexploded ordnance on a street near where he was guarding a station. He pushed her aside and threw himself on it just as it exploded. He left a family desolate in California and a little girl alive in Baghdad.

The stars who deserve media attention are not the ones who have lavish weddings on TV but the ones who patrol the streets of Mosul even after two of their buddies were murdered and their bodies battered and stripped for the sin of trying to protect Iraqis from terrorists.

We put couples with incomes of $100 million a year on the covers of our magazines. The noncoms and officers who barely scrape by on military pay but stand on guard in Afghanistan and Iraq and on ships and in submarines and near the Arctic Circle are anonymous as they live and die.

I am no longer comfortable being a part of the system that has such poor values, and I do not want to perpetuate those values by pretending that who is eating at Morton’s is a big subject.

There are plenty of other stars in the American firmament..the policemen and women who go off on patrol in South Central and have no idea if they will return alive; the orderlies and paramedics who bring in people who have been in terrible accidents and prepare them for surgery; the teachers and nurses who throw their whole spirits into caring for autistic children; the kind men and women who work in hospices and in cancer wards.

Think of each and every fireman who was running up the stairs at the World Trade Center as the towers began to collapse. Now you have my idea of a real hero.

I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters. This is my highest and best use as a human. I can put it another way. Years ago, I realized I could never be as great an actor as Olivier or as good a comic as Steve Martin or Martin Mull or Fred Willard–or as good an economist as Samuelson or Friedman or as good a writer as Fitzgerald. Or even remotely close to any of them.

But, I could be a devoted father to my son, husband to my wife and, above all, a good son to the parents who had done so much for me. This came to be my main task in life. I did it moderately well with my son, pretty well with my wife and well indeed with my parents (with my sister’s help). I cared for and paid attention to them in their declining years. I stayed with my father as he got sick, went into extremist and then into a coma and then entered immortality with my sister and me reading him the Psalms.

This was the only point at which my life touched the lives of the soldiers in Iraq or the firefighters in New York. I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters and that it is my duty, in return for the lavish life God has devolved upon me, to help others He has placed in my path. This is my highest and best use as a human.

Faith is not believing that God can. It is knowing that God will.

Should China Forgive Sharon Stone?

sharon-stone

To suggest that God or karma wiped out innocent people, because He is unhappy with their government’s international political position is, in my never to be humble opinion, blasphemous, and phenomenally insensitive and disgusting.

Christian Dior has dropped spokeswoman Stone from their advertisements in China, and has also apologized to its customers there. But, I imagine, because she is a popular, liberal, Hollywood type, with great facial bone structure, she will not be feeling the negative impact of her own “karma” for very long.

I grew up watching him on television.

He was a great actor as well as a great rights activist.

I am reading all over the internet that he had Alzheimer’s.

I had no idea.

My his soul rest in peace.

I pray that God will comfort his family and friends.

My Heart Goes Out to Heath’s Family

There is nothing but love on their faces. It has to be sad when you lose somebody that you love SO much. I pray that their hearts will be healed quick. May Heath live on inside of little Matilda’s heart. May God bless and keep Michelle as she struggles to raise this child on her own. I’m not sure what we’re supposed to learn from death sometimes but eventually something good must come from it or otherwise how would we go on?

Quinn, why do you want to get married?

quinn

BTW, that’s an adorable picture of you and I think you look fab girlfriend. Honestly, why do you want to get married? If I were you I would keep my independence and just date. I would even spend some quality time by myself if I were you.

Honestly, I don’t think anybody knows after three months of casually dating if they can see themselves spending the rest of their lives with the person that they are dating. In fact, you sorta came across as just a tad bit desperate to get married just for the sake of being married.

I don’t think you can continue to bring up marriage every time you date somebody new and especially NOT three months into the whole gig. Come on, that is a tad bit on the desperate side and would turn even me off if I were a guy involved with you for a short amount of time.

Yes, your Christian Values are important to you but then you turn around and act a completely different way. (Example: Vegas Trip) Is it possible to be both? Don’t settle with anybody that doesn’t believe in the same things that you do. You can’t force anybody to believe in God so why would you try?

I don’t know why I always catch wind of these reality shows around the season finale time. Just when the season has ended I catch all the shows and now I can’t wait for the new season to start.

The Incomparable Christ

nancygary2007

More than two thousand years ago there was a man born contrary to the laws of life.

This man lived in poverty and was reared in obscurity. He received no formal education and never possessed wealth or widespread influence.

He never traveled extensively. He only once crossed the boundary of the country which He lived.

But this man’s life has changed the course of history.

In infancy He startled a king; in childhood He puzzled doctors; in manhood He ruled the course of nature, walked upon the waves, and hushed the sea to sleep.

He healed the multitudes without medicine and made no charge for His services.

He never wrote a book. Yet His life has inspired more books than any other man.

He never wrote a song. Yet He has furnished the theme for more songs than all songwriters combined.

He never founded a college. But all the schools put together cannot boast of having as many students.

He never marshaled an army, nor drafted a solder, nor fired a gun. Yet no leader ever had more rebels surrender to Him without a shot fired.

He never practiced psychiatry. Yet He has healed more broken hearts than all the doctors far and near.

Once each week the wheels of commerce cease their turning, and multitudes gather to pay homage and respect to Him.

Though time has spread two thousand years between the people of this generation and His birth, He still lives. His enemies could not destroy Him, and the grave could not hold Him.

This man stands forth upon the highest pinnacle of heavenly glory, proclaimed of God, acknowledged by angels, adored by His people, and feared by devils, as the risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“God also hath highly exalted Him (Jesus Christ), and given Him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” - Philippians 2:9-11

“If thou shalt confess with they mouth that Lord Jesus, and shalt believer in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” - Romans 10:9

Nancy Grace is in for Double the Trouble

nancy grace

At 48 years of age she gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl! WOW.

John David and his twin Lucy Elizabeth were most definitely part of God’s plan even though Nancy wasn’t sure that they would be.

Now she can boldly hold the title of mother and wife and at her age.. more power to her!

Congratulations on your beautiful babies Nancy!

Ok Mr. Spencer Pratt

heidispence blog

I just figured out that you have a blog. I think that’s pretty cool. I will admit, I really like this photo of you and Heidi. I’m telling you right now that I hope to God that you are not playing her. It would be really nice to know that you are really serious about sticking with her for the rest of your life and treating her better than you would treat yourself. You still have a chance to win me over and I will most definitely be watching the next few episodes to see if you will redeem yourself with me.

Ok, now show me some love and link back to my blog! THAT would totally make my day! :)

PS Congratulations on your engagement. If you truly love each other and put yourselves first as a couple I will support you. I’m sure the fans will support you too. I’m happy for you two.

Today is Hokie Hope Day

“I want to issue a direct personal plea, to all the major media,” he told The Associated Press. “For the love of God and our children, stop broadcasting those images and those words. Choose to focus on life and the love and the light that our children brought into the world and not on the darkness and the madness and the death.”

I couldn’t agree more!

May the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims find peace and solitude. I hope that the grieving, sadness, and depression will go away soon. I hope that they all know that even though precious lives were lost that there is still hope and a light at the end of the tunnel.

The Beatitudes
God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of haven is theirs.

God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
